The Passion of the Holy Martyr Cointus

This holy martyr was born in Phrygia, and was instructed in Christian piety there. When he came to Neolide, he distributed alms and healed the demon-possessed.

On his way to Pergamum, Saint Cointus was captured by pagans from the city of Kim, who tortured him, but at that time there was a sudden earthquake, from which the idol shrines collapsed and the idols fell to the ground.

Shortly thereafter, someone named Clearchus, the newly appointed ruler of the city, arrived at Chima and ordered St. Coint to be seized and his legs broken, but the saint recovered, lived another ten years and, having performed many miracles, retired to the Lord.

3 Pergamum was situated near the shores of the Aegean Sea on the river Kaika in the northwestern province of Myzia in Asia Minor. 4 The city of Kima was located on the seafront in the northern part of the province of Lydia in Asia Minor. 5 The holy martyr Koint suffered under the reign of Emperor Aurelian (270-275 C.E.), and his peaceful death followed in about 283 C.E.
